Charcoal Barbeques

Your grandparents, parents and neighbors alike can probably all agree that spending the time with family and friends while grilling up some good eats over a charcoal barbeque is a great way to pass the time. Barbeques are part of what summer and fall afternoons and evenings are all about. Most likely, your parents and grandparents probably grilled their own outdoor entrees over a charcoal barbeque that wasn’t all that different from many of those offered on today’s outdoor barbeque market. Charcoal barbeques have proved that they can stand the test of time for many reasons.

Charcoal barbeques are the real deal

There is an undeniable, signature smoky taste associated with grilling in the great outdoors. This is why people’s mouths start to water when they even hear the word barbeque. This signature flavor is impossible to miss out on when you choose to use a charcoal fueled barbeque. Charcoal barbeques have become classic and timeless outdoor cooking machines for good reason, when it comes to unbeatable barbeque flavor they really have no competition.

Although charcoal barbeques require that you purchase charcoal to operate them, charcoal is considerably less costly than the gasses required for gas-powered barbeques. Charcoal barbeques themselves are also considerably cheaper than gas barbeques and therefore are more attractive to many consumers on a budget. If you’re just looking for something simple to use in the garden with the family on the weekends, the charcoal styled barbeque could be the perfect choice for you.

Some consumers simply like the act of working with the fire and the more natural aspect of charcoal barbeques over gas barbeques. There is certainly something to be said for the classic aspect and appeal associated with charcoal barbeques and for many, grilling without it just isn't the same.

Another plus for charcoal barbeques is that they come in a wide variety of sizes. Whether you’re looking for something to throw in the back of your trunk and take to the tailgate party or you’re in the market for something of a larger scale to entertain large groups of people at company picnics or weddings, there are many varieties and sizes available and one is surely going to fit your needs whatever they may be.

A major con of charcoal barbeques is that they take a little bit of skill to get going and to maintain an even heat across the grilling surface. Certainly anyone can become a charcoal barbeque grill master, but it might take a couple of tries before you master the art of charcoal barbequing.

Heat-up time can also be a factor weighing against the choice of a charcoal barbeque. Waiting for those briquettes to reach the perfect cherry red for cooking your signature steak can require a little patience and if you’re in a rush to get dinner on the table, it might require time that you just don’t have.

Another argument against charcoal grills is that it can be difficult to control the heat across the span of the grill surface. Sometimes you may want to barbeque a variety of dishes at the same time and this can be difficult if you only have one range of heat available. Also, some outdoor culinary entrees require very specific temperatures in order for them to turn out just the way the chef ordered. This can be practically impossible to achieve unless you’re going to stick a cooking thermometer into the glowing red coals. Typically a given temperature can only be discerned by the looks of the coals and amount of heat you can feel being emitted from them. However if burgers and hot dogs is all you’re going for there's no need to worry. When the coals are good to go, the outcome is sure to hit the spot regardless if the temperature ranges a bit from side to side.

Charcoal grills can also be a little on the messy side. That smoky charcoal flavor has got to come from somewhere and when the fun is said and done there is going to be ash and old coals to be dealt with. In other words, that unbeatable smoky flavor does come with somewhat of a price. It’s up to you whether that great flavor is worth the price or not.

Most consumers who choose to use charcoal grills swear by them, some even refusing to use any other kind of barbeque as they believe that it just simply isn’t a barbeque without coals. These opinions are backed by some pretty solid claims and should be considered when choosing which type of grill is right for you. After all, the charcoal grill is the oldest version of them all and remains a prominent player in the contemporary barbeque market.
