Barbeque Accessories

For all barbeque enthusiasts it is essential to have the best tools and barbeque accessories to do a good job. Experienced barbeque cooks know what the best and most useful tools are, but for novices who are new to this game it can often be hard to tell what is useful and what is not. So for the benefit of all barbequing beginners out there, the following guide to essential barbeque accessories should be extremely useful.

Long Handled Tong

At the very top of any experienced grill chef's list is a pair of long handled tongs. This is quite simply one the most essential barbeque accessories that you need to have. If you want to be really professional in your cooking, get yourself two pairs. Use one pair for actually handling meat on the grill, flipping the burgers, steaks and sausages and use the other pair to stoke the coals, move the grates and handle anything else that won't actually be eaten.

Long Handled Spatula

This is one of the essential barbeque accessories that you will really find to be useful. These are great for handling delicate foods that would otherwise fall apart if you tried to lift them up with your tongs. Look for a spatula that has a wide blade and a slightly bent handle. A wide blade is important because it will allow you to get the spatula right underneath the food, meaning none is overhanging so there is less risk of any breaking off and falling back onto the grill.

Long Handled Fork

These barbeque accessories are not for stabbing sausages and steaks! It's advisable not to ever stab the meat you are cooking. Rather, this should be used for stabbing vegetables to see if they are cooked. They are also handy for removing any meat that has become stuck to the grill.

Long Handled Brushes

No set of barbeque accessories is complete without a brush. In fact, it's best if you have at least two brushes. Then you can use one for oiling the surfaces of the grill and keep the other one for basting the meats prior to cooking. For true experts who are going to be cooking a wide variety of meats and use a different baste for each one, it pays to have a whole selection of brushes. This is because it can be tricky to rinse the flavor out of the brush after using it. One piece of advice though: don't spend too much money on a brush. These barbeque accessories never seem to last very long no matter how expensive they might be.

Mitts

Mitts are very useful for anyone grilling meat on the barbeque. Accessories are usually barbeque specific, but with mitts, any old kitchen pair will be just fine. They are good because sometimes it is necessary to handle hot foods, either because they are stuck on the grill or because you are cooking meat on skewers. It's always a bad idea to try and pick up a skewer of meat with a pair of tongs. Additionally, if you want to cook food wrapped in foil you will need mitts to pick them up after they are done. Mitts can also be handy if you don't want to wait for the grill to cool down before you clean it as they will allow you to handle it while its still hot.

Skewers

The last essential barbeque accessory you need are some skewers, simply because you can't cook proper barbeque kebabs without them.
